Destiny PS4-Exclusive Content Now Won't Come to Xbox One Until Next Year

Since its original release, Destiny has had PlayStation-exclusive content, usually in the form of Crucible maps and certain weapons. Generally, all of that exclusive content came to Xbox One and Xbox 360 a year after it was added to the game. Now, however, the PlayStation-only content that was added in The Taken King last year has had its exclusivity extended, until "at least Fall 2017."

It's no surprise that the game's next expansion, Rise of Iron, also adds exclusive content, and the game's website and the PlayStation Store state that this content will be exclusive until "at least Fall 2017." However, these pages also list old PlayStation-only content from The Taken King as now exclusive until "at least Fall 2017."

Back when The Taken King was originally released in Fall 2015, marketing materials listed this content as exclusive until "at least Fall 2016." As a result, it seems that Activision and Sony have utilized the "at least" part of the phrase to extend the timeframe.

Polygon confirmed with Activision that the new window is accurate, but could not say when the policy had changed. Some Xbox owners are understandably confused, and Activision has not been entirely clear on the full extent of the policy's changes. The game's website only shows some of The Taken King's exclusive content, for example.

We've reached out to Bungie for comment or clarification and will update this article accordingly.

PlayStation owners of The Taken King received an exclusive Strike, Crucible map, Exotic scout rifle, and armor set for each character class. This year, in Rise of Iron, PS4 players can expect an exclusive Crucible map, ship, and quest.

Rise of Iron launches on September 20 for PS4 and Xbox One, and you can read more about its new multiplayer mode and private match system here. In addition, Bungie also recently detailed its social space and weapons.
